Antigo Farmers’ Market was organized in June of 2008, with the market open for business on August 2nd, 2008. The market quickly grew to 15-20 vendors each week with a diversity of produce. The Market is operated by the Antigo Farmers’ Market Association with written bylaws and a list of guidelines outlining market participation and conduct. A five member board and market manager coordinate the weekly Saturday market. The Antigo Farmers’ Market is a local foods market, all produce displayed for sale must be produced locally by the vendor who sells them. We have defined local as within 50 miles drive of the market. Antigo is home to over 3000 households that consume over $400 per year on fresh produce to be consumed at home. The goal of the Association is that more of that $1.2 million in purchases remains and recycles through the community.
